About VJTI
Located in South Mumbai, VJTI is an autonomous institution of repute, owned by Maharashtra State Government. VJTI has pioneered India's Engineering and Technology education, research and training since 1887 as Victoria Jubilee Technical Institute. Pre-independence, VJTI had been instrumental in driving Industry 2.0 throughout united India. Post-independence, VJTI played a pivotal role in setting up IITs and RECs of India and strengthened engineering and technology excellence of country through Industry 3.0. In 1997, VJTI name is changed to Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute to honor mother of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The Institute is reputed for excellent training in courses in engineering and technology at diploma, degree, and post graduate levels of over three thousand students. Over twenty seven courses are offered at the undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, postgraduate diploma and post diploma levels. A full time Ph.D. programme has been started in 2006-2007 and a total of 108 students are currently on roll. The Institute was granted financial and academic autonomy from June 21, 2004. Under the World Bank grant – TEQIP II - the Institute has several projects underway to establish itself as a world class technological Institute.
Prof. Deepak Phatak
Padma Shri Prof. Deepak B. Phatak is currently a Trustee at VJTI, Mumbai. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from SGSITS Indore in 1969, and his M Tech and Ph D from IIT Bombay. He has been serving with IIT Bombay since 1971. He headed the CSE department from 1991 to 1994, He was the first Dean of Resources of the Institute from 1995 to 1998. He was the founding head of the Kanwal Rekhi School of IT from 1998 to 2002. He briefly served as head of SJ Mehta School of management, from 2004 to 2005. He is currently Subrao M Nilekani Chair Professor, in the department of Computer Science and Engineering. His research interests are Data Bases and Information Systems, Software Engineering, System Performance Evaluation, IT enabled Education, and IT strategy planning. His primary research inclinations are in Technology application and deployment.
He has been a consultant and adviser to many organizations on various issues related to Information Technology. In the financial sector, he has been an I.T. adviser to State Bank of India, Reserve Bank of India, Unit Trust of India, IDBI, Life Insurance Corporation of India, New India Assurance, UIIC, SEBI, NSDL, ECGC, etc. He works on several committees advising Central and State Government departments, on issues related to IT projects. He has worked on the governing boards of NIBM, IDRBT, UTIISL, ISIL, etc. He recently served on the board of Bank of Baroda, and currently serves on the boards of HDFC Asset Management Company and IBPS. He is currently on the IT and HR committees of the Board of Bank of Baroda. He is also a permanent invitee to the payment system Board of RBI.
He was conferred Life time achievement awards by Skoch foundation in 2003, by Data Quest in 2008, and by Dewang Mehta Business School awards in 2010. He was listed among fifty most influential Indians, by Business week in 2009. He received the 'Excellence in Teaching' award of IIT Bombay in 2009; and the IIT Bombay Industrial Impact award in 2010. On 26th January 2013, he was conferred the Padma Shri award by the Government of India, for his services in Science and Technology. He has been recently honoured by IIT, Powai with ‘Jeevan Gaurav’ Award.
Dr. Abhay Wagh
Dr Abhay Wagh currently serves as the Director, Directorate of Technical Education, Maharashtra State, Mumbai. He has been working in the field of Technical Education from last 29 Years in various capacities as teaching faculty, trainer, administrator and policy maker. Earlier he held the position of Deputy Secretary to Government of Maharashtra in Higher & Technical Education Department, Mantralaya and was the State Project Advisor for the World Bank Assisted ‘Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme’ Phase II (TEQIP-II) for the State of Maharashtra. He was also invovled with Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) and Community College Project of MHRD, Government of India.
Dr. Wagh is the recipient of the ‘Skoch Gold Award of Excellence’ for successfully implementing 10 projects in the State of Maharashtra based on good governance, during the 37th Skoch Summit on ‘Minimum Government, Maximum Governance’. He was also awarded with ‘E-Maharashtra’ honour, Promising Engineer Award from Institution of Engineers, 'Vidnyan Nishtha Puraskar' by Kanushri Pratishthan and several more in the field of education and social welfare.
He has publsihed 35 papers in International and National journals and has immense expertise in the areas of Communication Engineering, Fiber Optics, LASERS, RF and Microwave Circuits, Modeling and Simulation and Power Electronics.
Dr. Naveen Vashisht
Dr. Naveen Vashisht is currently Scientist F with NEB Division at Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. He is part of the Team that manages the NIDHI-TBI Scheme under NSTEDB and is the DST Nominee at VJTI-TBI, VJTI, Mumbai.
Shri Vikas Chandra Rastogi
Mr. Vikas Rastogi currently serves as the Principal Secretary, Department of Higher and Technical Education in the Government of Maharashtra. He has completed B.Tech and M.Tech from IIT Delhi, LLB from Mumbai University and Masters in International Development Policy from Duke University, North Carolina, USA. He has served as Officer Trainee, LSBNAA, Mussoorie from September 04, 1995 till August 01, 1997; Assistant Collector, Arvi Wardha from August 08, 1997 upto March 23, 1999; Chief Executive Officer, Aurangabad from March 26, 1999 upto October 14, 1999; Chief Executive Officer, Ahmednagar from October 15, 1999 to December 31, 2000; Chief Executive Officer, Parbhani from January 02, 2000 upto October 14, 2003; Joint Commissioner Sales Tax, Mumbai from October 16, 2003 upto June 06, 2006; Collector, Ratnagiri from June 08, 2006 upto January 29, 2009; Joint Secretary to Honorable Governor of Maharashtra from January 30, 2009 to March 22, 2011; Secretary to Honorable Governor of Maharashtra from March 23, 2011 to upto July 31, 2015; Project Director, Maharashtra Project on Climate Resilient Agriculture from August 18, 2016 upto September 03, 2020 and Principal Secretary (Information Technology and Chairman (MahaIT) and State IT Corporation from September 04, 2020 upto November 28, 2020.
Dr.Sachin Kore
Dr. Sachin Kore is currently the Chairperson at VJTI-TBI and Director at VJTI. He has completed his Ph.D. Mechanical Engineering (IIT Bombay). Electromagnetic Manufacturing, Electromagnetic Forming and Magnetic Pulse Welding, Electromagnetic Powder Compaction, Friction Stir Welding, Additive Manufacturing (3 D printing), Manufacturing of Bamboo tools, Computer Integrated Manufacturing are his areas of research. Prior to this he was Dean AP, August 2018 to June 2023, Dean SA, June 2018 to January 2022, Professor, SMS, IIT Goa, Aug 2019 to June 2023, Associate Professor, IIT Goa, from May 2018 to August 2019, Associate Professor, Mechanical Engineering Department, IIT Guwahati from Jan 2015 to May 2018, Assistant Professor, Mechanical Engineering Department, IIT Guwahati from July 2009 to Jan 2015 and Postdoctoral Fellow at CAMJ, University of Waterloo, Canada, July 2008 to June 2009. He has received many awards and recognitions such as Young Engineer Award 2013 from Senior Engineers’ Forum, Greater Guwahati, Felicitation of Dr. Sachin D. Kore, by former President of India Dr. A.P.J. Shri. Om Prakash Gupta
Dr. Faruk Kazi
Dr. Faruk Kazi is currently the Faculty Coordinator of VJTI-TBI. He also holds the position of Professor of Electronics Engineering in the Department of Electrical Engineering, VJTI and Dean, Research Development & Consultancy at VJTI, Mumbai. He received the Ph.D. degree in Systems and Control from the Department of Systems and Control Engineering, IIT-Bombay, Mumbai, India, in 2009.
His research interests include modeling and control of complex and nonlinear dynamical systems, cyber-physical systems, and smart grids. He is working as Chair of WG-3 (Digital Architecture and Cyber Security) of India Smart Grid Forum (ISGF), PPP initiative of Ministry of Power, Government of India. He is also working as Consultant for Tata Consulting Engineers (TCE) on Smart Grid Projects. He was a member of Maharashtra Smart Grid Coordination Committee (Maha-SGCC).
He was invited as a visiting research scholar at Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, EPFL, Switzerland, Tufts University and MIT Energy Initiative, Boston, USA. He has delivered invited talks and presented his research work at SUPELEC, CNRS, Paris (France), Budapest (Hungary), Florence (Italy) and Japan. He has published more than 90 research papers in IEEE journals & conferences. He has received project funding from ISRO, BARC and DST for his various research projects.He is currently working as Principal Investigator (PI) & Coordinator of Rs 5 Cr World Bank funded Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Complex & Nonlinear Dynamical Systems (CNDS).
Dr. Anita Diwakar
Dr. Anita Diwakar currently serves as the CEO of VJTI-TBI and is responsible for smooth functioning of the Incubator. Prior to this, She has been Mentor and Investor in SINE IIT Bombay Incubated Startups. She is Life Member of ISTE, Member of CSI, IAOE, GOLC and Senior Member of IEEE. Chair of Educational activities committee IEEE Bombay section. She has 30 years of teaching experience in engineering education, 9 years in Industry and 10 years in Research.
She holds a PhD in Educational Technology from IIT Bombay and Masters and Bachelors in Electronics Engineering.
Neha Shendge
Neha is the Finance Officer at VJTI-TBI and also looks after day-to-day administration of the Incubator. Earlier she was working with Tata Consultancy Services as a Senior Process Associate managing a team of 16 members who looked after accounting process in the company. Before that she worked with Axis Bank Limited as Assistant Manager in Finance section.
Neha has completed her M.Com from Mumbai University and B.Com from Bhavans College, Mumbai. She also has experience on working with various financial tools viz, Tally, ERP, Peoplesoft, J D Edwards and RAMCO systems.
Seema Mathew
Dr.Seema Mathew is a PhD in Electrical Engineering from University of Pune and has an M.Tech in Instrumentation and Control. She currently serves as a Senior Innovation Catalyst in VJTI-TBI. She has around 18years of teaching and 3 years of industrial experience. Her area of interest is Electrical Vehicles, Renewable energy and Machine Learning. She is in charge of the technical evaluation, testing and mentoring of the various startups.
Nilesh Jadhav
Dr Nilesh Jadhav currently holds Incubation Manager position at VJTI TBI, Mumbai. He is responsible to manage the incubation activities at VJTI-TBI. He is a PhD in Chemical Technology from Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai. He has entrepreneurial background of 8 years. There are around 20 research articles and 5 Patents (Two Granted) to his credit. He speaks on Start-up Ecosystem in India He has been recognised with several National & International awards for his entrepreneurial achievements including Young Chemical Engineer Award 2018 by IIChe, IIGP 2.0 Award 2017 by DST - Tata Trust - Lockheed Martin, Indian Oil Start up Fund Award 2019, Carbon Zero Challenge Award 2018 by IIT Madras, Climate Launchpad KIC Accelerator Award at Netherlands, Europe 2019, ABLE Best Award by Department of Biotechnology 2019, DERBI Social Tech innovation Award 2021 by DERBI Foundation, Aarohan Social Tech Innovation Award by Infosys foundation 2019.
Mangesh Jadhav
Mr. Mangesh Ashok Jadhav Currently holds Outreach Manager position at VJTI TBI, Mumbai. He is responsible to manage the Outreach/Social Media activities at VJTI-TBI. He is a MBA in Marketing from RPIMS College. He has 5 years’ Experience in Operation stream.
Jay Ghole
Mr. Jay Ghole assists the CEO, PI & Coordinator and Nodal Finance Officer in day to day administrative work. Previously he has worked at VJTI under TEQIP Project (funded by World Bank) as a Technical Assistant. He holds deep knowledge and experience of procurement and other administrative processes at VJTI, Mumbai. Jay holds a Diploma in Computer Engineering and later completed a B.Sc in Information Technology.
