Energy sector is currently witnessing a massive transformation worldwide, and more specifically in the Indian context. With a focus on clean energy, there has been much interest towards integrating new and renewable energy sources along with sustainable environmental solutions. Traditionally also energy sector has been an extremely important area in terms of job & wealth creation, social welfare of citizens, energy security as well as overall of growth of Indian economy. Considering these possibilities VJTI-TBI will focus on the thematic areas of Energy, Clean-Tech and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT).
The areas are chosen considering the expertise available at VJTI and their social, economic and environmental significance. With its core philosophy to provide and nurture a long term engagement with qualified startups in the identified thematic area, VJTI-TBI will ensure the success of technology-driven business enterprises. These areas have been specifically chosen to ensure that the under-served and unserved areas are focused to bring about an inclusive growth. With new avenues like electrical vehicles, IT enabled smart grid, data analytics and security for smart metering, energy efficient building automation and DC microgrid the energy sector has opened-up many opportunities for product development and entrepreneurship.
Located in South Mumbai, VJTI is an autonomous institution of repute, owned by Maharashtra State Government. VJTI has pioneered India's Engineering and Technology education, research and training since 1887 as Victoria Jubilee Technical Institute. Pre-independence, VJTI had been instrumental in driving Industry 2.0 throughout united India. Post-independence, VJTI played a pivotal role in setting up IITs and RECs of India and strengthened engineering and technology excellence of country through Industry 3.0. In 1997, VJTI name is changed to Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute to honor mother of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The Institute is reputed for excellent training in courses in engineering and technology at diploma, degree, and post graduate levels of over three thousand students. Over twenty seven courses are offered at the undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, postgraduate diploma and post diploma levels. A full time Ph.D. programme has been started in 2006-2007 and a total of 108 students are currently on roll. The Institute was granted financial and academic autonomy from June 21, 2004.
